Love Food Hate Waste Memphis: A Celebration of Sustainability and Community

Love Food Hate Waste Memphis is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Join Project Green Fork on Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memphis Made Brewing Co. for a free, fun-filled, family-friendly event aimed at raising awareness about food waste and promoting sustainable practices in our homes and communities. Love Food Hate Waste Memphis is a zero waste event where Project Green Fork is committed to diverting from landfills over 90% of the materials generated at the event. With support from The Compost Fairy and Get Green Recycleworks, we’re ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly gathering for all attendees.

This year’s event promises an exciting lineup of activities and attractions for attendees of all ages. As you enter Memphis Made, you’ll be greeted with the scent of freshly brewed craft beer, courtesy of our generous sponsor. Enjoy a complimentary specialty craft beer while exploring the various exhibits and demonstrations throughout the venue.

One of the highlights of Love Food Hate Waste Memphis is the live culinary demo, where members of the Project Green Fork team will showcase creative and practical ways to minimize food waste in our kitchens. From innovative recipes to handy cooking tips, this demo is sure to inspire attendees to make positive changes in their own homes.

But that’s not all – there will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family, with games and activities designed to educate and engage both kids and adults. From engaging in a round of food waste trivia with exciting prizes to participating in activities hosted by our education team, there’s something for everyone at this event.

Love Food Hate Waste Memphis also serves as a platform to showcase the important work being done by local organizations to combat food waste and food insecurity in our communities. This year, organizations that will be on-site at the event will include Black Seeds Urban Farms, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, The Works, and The Compost Fairy. Project Green Fork partner rescue organizations, including Sunshine and Daisy, The Love Hub, Room in the Inn, and Knowledge Quest, will be in attendance as well.

Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with these organizations, learn about their initiatives, and discover how they can get involved in supporting their efforts. From food rescue initiatives to educational programs, these organizations are making a meaningful impact and creating a more sustainable future for Memphis.

One of the most unique aspects of this event is the bread-to-tap concept, which highlights the innovative ways that breweries are tackling food waste. Brewers across Tennessee have partnered with local bakeries to transform unsold bread into delicious brews, demonstrating the potential for creative solutions to address the issue of food waste. This year, we will be using bread from Lucy J’s Bakery, an eatery located in Crosstown Concourse and participant in the 901 Save the Food Challenge.

The bread-to-tap concept not only showcases innovative approaches to reducing food waste but also emphasizes the collaborative spirit within the brewing industry. By partnering with local bakeries, breweries are not only diverting surplus bread from landfills but also creating unique and flavorful beers that resonate with environmentally conscious consumers. This initiative highlights the potential for creative solutions to address food waste while promoting sustainability and supporting local businesses.

This event is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors, including Clean Memphis, Memphis Made Brewing Co., and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Their commitment to sustainability and community engagement has helped make Love Food Hate Waste Memphis a success year after year.

So mark your calendars and join us on April 6 for an unforgettable day of food, fun, and meaningful impact. Together, we can work towards a future where our community comes together to minimize food waste and ensure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food.
